Hello Maplephiles,

Well that was an interesting Oscars. I enjoyed the program and thought the gaffe turned into a wonderful display of class. Class is something we rarely see these days when you turn on the TV. Ironically, it was an eerie moment when life imitates art. Wasn’t the Oscars ending of La La Land similar to the actual ending in the movie? It was hard to be disappointed with Moonlight, a great film well deserving of the accolades.

The Little Projectionist has been getting accolades until a few days ago. He got into a shoving match with a kid at recess and got socked in the stomach. Turns out the two boys made up quickly and thoroughly enjoyed their time in the assistant principal’s office. I think they need a better form of punishment at school. Is water boarding acceptable again?

This week, I am ready to move on from Oscar movies. If you want to see Moonlight, it is available on DVD. I love Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) so we booked a small film called Table 19 for the next two weeks. It has a great cast and the trailer is almost as cute as Ms. Kendrick. I will be seeing Logan at The Riviera or The Palladium. Oddly, my wife and I have an unusual love of the X-Men. We also are opening a movie of faith called The Shack starring Sam Worthington, Octavia Spencer, and Tim McGraw.

I have booked the next five Secret Cinemas and if you were mad at me in January, I PROMISE you will love me by May. This week we are kicking off with a film from the 1940’s that is a unanimous choice as one of the best films ever. Someone already guessed it, so I can’t give any more clues. I am sad that I can’t join you as I need to go see my grandmother in Florida. She was 24 when this film was released.  Nathan Koob and the rest of The Maple staff will adequately lead you through this masterpiece on DCP.

Now your moment of Zen
