Hello Maplephiles,

My daughter is playing in a hockey tournament this weekend. The whole team has some time to kill between games so I am trying to arrange to see the movie Miracle. While it will not be a miracle if their team wins, I can’t wait to see if the movie will inspire them. I can’t believe the miracle on ice was 37 years ago. I was ten years old and Al Michaels’ voice will forever be etched in my mind.

The Little Projectionist tried to play hockey. He was good, but just didn’t love playing. I need to figure out how to incorporate Pokemon into a sport. If it was called Pokemon hockey with those silly VR goggles placed under his helmet, he would be all in. Add in some sugary sweets and he would want to play every day.

No new movies this week except Kong: Skull Island at The Riviera and Palladium. Another tentpole movie that could have been terrible, but it already has garnered great reviews -- Beauty and The Beast is showing everywhere next week. The big controversy is that Lefou is gay. Thinking about it from the cartoon, it was obvious. I would think the idea of Emma Watson kissing a big furry animal would be a bigger fuss, but what do I know.

I heard you all enjoyed The Third Man. Next week Ken Droz will present a 1990’s film that you all know. Very famous cast, award winning, but not appropriate for children. Also, remember we will have an extra Secret Cinema this month on the 30th. This longer film is by a great auteur who has not been represented yet in our program.

Now your moment of Zen
