Hello Maplephiles,
The Little Projectionist and I went to see Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One. I read the book, and while the movie was good, he changed much of the story. I think Warner Brothers missed out on a trilogy that could have stayed true to the book. It certainly is better source material than The Hunger Games.
Inspired by the movie, I gave my Ready Player One book to the Little Projectionist. It was a bit slow at first, but now he is eating up the book to hit his school reading requirement. I am really proud of him, as the book, while adult candy, is still harder than a sixth grade reading level. I think he might be ready for Lord of the Flies, but he probably will want to see the movie first.
This weekend, The Maple opens two new films. We opened Beirut yesterday which was produced by a woman who lived three houses away from me when I was growing up. So go see it. Also, this weekend we are opening a “Marigold Hotel” type movie called Finding Your Feet. I guarantee the ending is a bit happier than The Leisure Seeker.
By the way, you may have noticed The Riviera is no longer part of this newsletter. We have decided that it makes more sense for The Riviera to join the family of Emagine Theaters and keep the Maple solo. For more mainstream films please check emagine-entertainment.com.
Next week comic Chris Morgan presents one of the funniest movies of all time from the 1980’s. The film is rated PG so bring everyone. The comedy is unique and we will see how well it holds up almost 40 years later. Chris will bring some of his comedy friends so it should be a very interesting and fun evening.
