Hello Maplephiles,

I hope everyone enjoyed Lust for Life last week at Secret Cinema. What a big turnout for Diane on her maiden Secret Cinema voyage. I promised back in January to spend more time on the movie selection, and Ruth is trying hard to bring in fresh voices for speaking. Thank you for rewarding us with your presence.

In honor of Avengers: Endgame, The Little Projectionist and I watched the original Iron Man. We were having such a fun week and then, over the weekend, his friend took him to CJ Barrymore’s. While he was in a go-kart, his new phone accidently slipped out of his pocket. It wedged itself between the kart and the track and proceeded to drag across the asphalt with sparks flying. My first thought was the combination of man, machine, and sparks made him just like Tony Stark. My second thought was I hope that is covered under the insurance plan I bought at AT&T.

We have two new movies this weekend to entertain you along with Long Shot. By the way, The Maple had the highest gross in Michigan on Long Shot. Thanks for that! If you enjoyed Book Club last year, I think you will like Poms starring Diane Keaton. It is a perfect Mother’s Day movie. The second is the movie Tolkien starring Nicholas Hoult. I saw the film and I will say that it was very interesting. It starts off slow, but the love story reminded me of Brooklyn.

Secret Cinema: New Hollywood next week will be presented by Free Press writer John Monaghan. John has picked the first-time work of a major director. It is a rated-R caper comedy and is not much longer than an hour and a half. In one of the scenes, the leads play Bally’s PowerPlay pinball. This is significant because that pinball machine was in my basement as a teenager.
