Hello Maplephiles,
It was a great weekend last weekend. Normally, I am very excited when people want to see our new movie. Last weekend, the new film was Joker. However, this movie brought along a whole other set of fears far worse than failure at the box office. I am thankful to say that it was a safe and successful weekend. The worst thing that happened, was very opinionated people talked endlessly about what it all “meant.”
My favorite band The Avett Brothers released a new album last Tuesday. I have not listened to a full album in a while. I also bought The Lumineers new album. When I was a teenager, I loved the stuff inside the album cover. It was lyrics, art… all the credits. I’m not saying it is better than Wikipedia, but it was a great way to kill time.
As far as a new movie experience, there will not be one at The Maple until next week. At this time, I don’t know what we are doing. I do know that in November we will be playing a movie called Jojo Rabbit. Some people won’t get it, but that will be part of the fun.
Secret Cinema: New Hollywood is timely for a few reasons. The clues to what movie will be playing are embedded in the first two paragraphs of this newsletter. Oakland University Professor, Justin Reifert, will be presenting this R-rated movie from the not so distant past. It is just a bit over two hours and will certainly make you think.

"Joker" centers around the iconic arch-nemesis and is an original, standalone story not seen before on the big screen. The exploration of Arthur Fleck (Joaquin Phoenix), a man disregarded by society, is not only a gritty character study, but also a broader cautionary tale.
